When the bride and groom get to the altar the shaman will welcome them and present the purpose of the ceremony. At the sound of drums, permission and blessing will be asked to the four cardinal points, East, West, North and South, as well as the heart of Heaven and the Higher Beings, the heart of Mother Earth and other Mayan deities.
The wedding sponsors get close to the couple and proceed to cover them with a cloak and seven strips of rainbow colors with which they will make a tie around the couple. The cloak symbolizes the universe that covers them and the strips of rainbow colors represent the seven rays of light. During this union the Shaman will bless you with the four elements. These blessings are accompanied by songs played with traditional instruments.
Then it will be time for the sponsors, parents and friends
that were chosen to share their wishes and advice with the couple. The
Shaman takes away the blanket and asked the couple for the rings. He
asks the couple tell each other their wishes as a couple.
